COLOMBO， June 24 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's opposition staged a protest on Friday in the capital of Colombo， demanding the removal of the country's central bank governor.

The government said on Friday that Mahendran had decided not to seek an extension of his term in office until his name was cleared of allegations against him.


A parliamentary committee was making inquiries into the allegations that Mahendran helped a company owned by his son-in-law.
