The Bengals needed to find more depth at defensive tackle in this draft with Geno Atkins again and Andrew Billings hitting free agency in 2020, not to mention Ryan Glasgow coming off an ACL tear.At this point, Wren was one of, if not the best defensive tackle left on the board, so this was a solid pick for Cincinnati. NFL.com had Wren projected as a Round 3-4 prospect. He was one of the big standouts at the Senior Bowl following a productive senior season in which he recorded 43 tackles, 4.5 for loss, one sack and two pass defenses while earning honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors (along with Drew Sample). Wren will likely play behind Billings at nose tackle, so this is likely insurance in case Billings leaves next year. But Wren is fully capable of playing behind Atkins when he needs a breather.
